SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Skidmore College alumni raised $280,000 in scholarship funds at the annual Polo by Twilight gala last month, the college announced on its website.
The event at the Saratoga Polo Association Fields in Greenfield Center featured a polo match, a feast prepared by Skidmore’s dining services and an auction. Items included a day with Saratoga thoroughbred trainer Chad Brown, tickets and backstage passes to “Hello, Dolly!,” a week at a home in the U.S. Virgin Islands, a week’s stay at a Nantucket cottage and part ownership of a racehorse.
The event was co-chaired by Jerome Mopsik, a 2006 Skidmore graduate, who became the first recipient of the scholarship to chair the event in 2016, and Judy Soukup, an assistant in Skidmore's dance department.
Proceeds from the event go to the Joseph C. and Anne T. Palamountain Scholarship Fund, named after the college's fourth president and his wife.
In 38 years, the scholarship has helped more than 350 students who otherwise would not be able to afford a Skidmore education, college officials said. Twenty-two students will benefit from the scholarship fund this fall.
