NORTHVILLE — The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that an investigation into the intentional running over of ducklings on Great Sacandaga Lake has been turned over to the Department of Environmental Conservation.

Police said a witness reported seeing two young men on jet-skis circling a group of ducklings Sunday near Batchellerville Bridge, before appearing to drive directly over the group. The incident occurred about 11 a.m., according to the sheriff's office.

It was not known if any of the ducks were injured or killed.

The jet-skis were both described as being Sea-Doo “Sparks,” with one having burnt-orange-and-white markings and the other having black-and-yellow markings.

DEC spokesman Benning DeLaMater confirmed Tuesday that the agency is investigating the matter but said no further information was available.

Police asked anyone with information to call DEC officer Brian Toth at 518-222-1815. He can also be reached by email at brian.toth@dec.ny.gov
