SCHENECTADY — A local man intentionally placed a child's hands under hot water to harm him last month, authorities said.

Allan T. Decuir, 34, listed as homeless, faces one count of second-degree assault, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. Police arrested him last Friday.

Decuir is accused of placing the 5-year-old boy's hands under the hot water July 6 on Southgate Drive. The boy suffered severe burns to both hands and required medical treatment, according to papers filed in court.
