AMSTERDAM — An 8-year-old boy was attacked by his family's pit bull and taken to Albany Medical Center with severe injuries, according to Daily Gazette news-gathering partner CBS 6.

The mother's finger also was bitten, according to CBS 6, and she also was transported to Albany Med after the incident about 6 p.m. in their Chapel Place backyard.

The boy suffered throat injuries, according to CBS 6. It's unknown what led to the attack.
