Dedicated workers play vital role

Sept. 10-16 is National Direct Support Professionals Week. At Schenectady ARC, 80 percent of our workforce are direct support professionals (DSPs). DSPs are the people you see in the community, assisting individuals with intellectual or other developmental disabilities with shopping, working, or any number of activities. DSPs are also working behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide the support and services that people need in every aspect of their lives.

Schenectady ARC is celebrating 65 years of service to the Schenectady County community this year. That service would not exist without the work of our DSPs. During National DSP Week, we are honoring our DSPs with lunches, discounts to local retailers, and raffles of gift cards and merchandise donated by grateful family members and our corporate partners. This is a small way to thank these unsung heroes who make a difference every day in the lives of the people they support. Please join us in celebrating these dedicated workers and acknowledging the vital role they play in making our communities diverse, inclusive, and better.
