BALLSTON SPA— Nikolai Mavashev and Joseph Broscko, both teenagers who are facing murder charges after allegedly killing another teenager last month, were arraigned Friday in Saratoga County Court.

Mavashev, 19, of Halfmoon, and Broscko, 17, of Clifton Park, are accused of murdering 19-year-old David J. Feliciano in Mechanicville on Aug. 7. They each face a 29-count indictment, which includes a first-degree murder charge for Mavashev and a second-degree murder charge for Broscko. Both pleaded not-guilty on all counts.

If convicted on the first-degree murder charge, Mavashev could face life in prison without the possibility of parole. Broscko could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder. The indictment indicates prosecutors believe Mavashev shot Feliciano.

The pair are accused of using a .38-caliber handgun to kill Feliciano at his 44 Grove St. residence in Mechanicville , according to authorities and the indictment. Police arrested the teens two days after the killing.

Mavashev and Broscko were indicted by a grand jury on Sept. 20.

In addition to the murder charges, the pair face counts of first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree aggravated criminal possession of a weapon. However, the indictment does not indicate what the teens allegedly stole from Feliciano -- only that they stole property.

Police said Feliciano was shot inside his apartment. He then went outside to his driveway, where officers found him.

Mavashev and Broscko were arraigned before Judge James A Murphy III. Cheryl Coleman is representing Mavashev, and Matthew Chauvin is representing Broscko. Both were sent to Saratoga County Jail without bail.

Neighbors have speculated the shooting was drug related. Feliciano had recently moved to Mechanicville, and he and the two defendants had either attended, or were currently attending, Shenendehowa High School.
