HALFMOON — An investigation into a suspicious person in Halfmoon has been closed after a man thought to be encouraging kids to come toward his truck was determined to be a prospective homebuyer.
A black pickup truck with tinted windows pulled up about 6 p.m. Saturday to a housing development off Harris Road in Halfmoon, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office said. Four boys, ages 6 to 10, were playing in the yard at the time, and the driver motioned to them to have them approach the truck, the sheriff’s office said.
The boys refused and ran back to the house, where they made contact with a parent. The truck driver, described as a man in his late 30s or early 40s, reportedly drove away toward Harris Road, the sheriff’s office said. A parent then checked the area before contacting authorities.
Patrols responded to the area but were unable to find the vehicle or its operator, the sheriff’s office said.
After seeing reports on social media, the driver came forward and was interviewed by the sheriff’s office and Waterford police. Authorities determined the man was a potential homebuyer in the area, and that there was no criminal intent.
A similar incident in Waterford of a man motioning kids toward his vehicle is still under investigation, authorities said.
