OPPENHEIM — A report of a burglary in progress led to the arrest of two men in Oppenheim this week, state police said.

Police stopped a vehicle that was seen leaving the scene and arrested both occupants. They also found the driver to be drunk, police said.

Matthew Vannostrand, 37, of Gloversville, and Edwin Atkins, 37, of Fonda, both face charges of second-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal mischief. Vannostrand also faces a felony driving while intoxicated count.

Police stopped the pair on Route 29. They then searched Vannostrand's residence Wednesday and found property stolen during other burglaries in the area investigated by the Fulton County Sheriff's Department, police said. Further charges could be filed.
