SCHENECTADY — Starting Tuesday night, the clock tower at Schenectady City Hall will be bathed in purple and pink light for the remainder of October, in an effort to raise awareness about domestic violence and breast cancer.

Purple is to "Shine the Light" on domestic violence and declare it will not be tolerated, while pink is for October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, according to a prepared statement announcing the lighting plan.

"It is critical that we highlight these important issues in October by throwing the switch on the floodlights of City Hall," Mayor Gary McCarthy said. "It takes a coordinated effort by all corners of the community: law enforcement, advocates, community groups and schools to enforce this."
