SCHENECTADY — The YWCA’s Take Back the Night march kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday from the YWCA building at 44 Washington Ave.

The march is part of YWCA’s Week Without Violence, an initiative created to bring together communities against all forms of violence. This year, the initiative is focused on ending gender-based violence, which includes intimate partner violence, sexual assault, trafficking and harassment.

The Rev. Jonathan Vanderbeck, the minister at Trinity Reformed Church, will open the evening with a speech in front of the YWCA building. Attendees will then march in a short loop through the Stockade.

Participants are encouraged to wear purple to show support and to bring flashlights.
