MIDDLETOWN - Glens Falls saw its hopes for a repeat state Class B football championship dashed with a 20-7 semifinal loss to Pleasantville.
Glens Falls (11-1) was No. 1 in the state coming in and riding a 24-game win streak, yet struggled to move the ball against the Panthers (Section I, 11-1). Glens Falls' woes include a first-quarter fumble which Charlie McPhee returned 8 yards for a Pleasantville touchdown.
Pleasantville drove 80 yards to begin the third quarter and padded its lead on a 27-yard reception by Declan McDermott. Jack Howe threw that pass, and later ran 17 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown to make it 20-0.
Glens Falls scored with 35 seconds left on a 15-yard pass from Joe Girard III to Aaron Sampson.
Glens Falls defeated Pleasantville in the 2016 semifinals 49-14 in Kingston before topping Chenango Forks 47-39 in Syracuse for its first New York title.
