There seems to be general outrage, particularly among my liberal friends, about the provocative, outrageous, racist, sexist and otherwise insulting tweets and other statements made by the president of this great republic and by his spokespersons on his behalf.

I suggest that his messaging is much better understood if one considers the question of how each message is received by his supporters in Alabama and in all the other states who voted for him.

It’s my sense that generally they are wholeheartedly supportive of his various stances and that to this extent he, or his handlers, are doing a masterly job of keeping his base in his thrall.

Whether his views are appropriate for a democracy, whether they are respectful of the population at large or becoming of his office, is sadly, of no concern to him.
