A man who coached basketball at an Amsterdam school has been charged with possessing and promoting child porn, New York State Police said.

John D. Salisbury, 46, of Hagaman, promoting a sexual performance by a child, possessing a sexual performance by a child, second-degree unlawful surveillance, and endangering the welfare of a child, state police said.

Salisbury is accused of possessing and uploading an image of a child engaged in a sexual performance, state police said, and also accused of setting up surveillance in a bathroom to capture videos of children.

The Leader-Herald reported Salisbury was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam, and coached the after-school junior girls' basketball team.

Salisbury was arraigned in the City of Amsterdam Court and committed to the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail. He was ordered to appear in the Town of Amsterdam Court later this month.
