NISKAYUNA — A woman was in custody Wednesday night after police said her vehicle collided with a man plowing snow in a small farm tractor near Route 7 and Shannon Boulevard.

Niskayuna Deputy Police Chief Michael Stevens said police were investigating alcohol as a possible cause of the accident, which sent the man operating the snow plow to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash, which happened just before 6 p.m., left Route 7 closed in both directions between Mohawk and Pearse roads. A white SUV and the snow plow, both damaged, sat in the middle of the road. Stevens said no one witnessed the collision.

About 8 p.m., with state police on the scene to begin to reconstruct the accident, Stevens said he expected Route 7 — also known as Troy Schenectady Road — to remain closed for three or four hours.

Stevens said the man in the plow was a private operator known to plow for homes in the area.
