Daily Gazette sportswriter Jim Schiltz and a trio of Section II players will be among those honored at the New York State High School Football Coaches Association's annual awards banquet and dinner Feb. 9 at Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona.

Schiltz, who joined the Gazette staff in 1985 and began writing high school sports in 1987, will receive the Hunter Low Media Award, given to a standout high school football writer.

Joe Casale of Troy and Brenden Holcomb of Cambridge, both of whom helped their teams win consecutive state championships, will he honored as the Class AA and Class D players of the year, respectively. Bob Burns of Troy and Doug Luke of Cambridge earned coach of the year laurels in their classes. Derek Willson of Schuylerville (Class B) is one of five scholar athletes of the year.
