A substation equipment malfunction caused some 6,700 people to be without power early Tuesday.

National Grid spokesman Nathan Stone said he did not know if wet weather caused the malfunction. He said the insulator on the substation went bad and was replaced, which can happen regardless of weather conditions.

National Grid was able to isolate the issue near McClellan St. in Schenectady and restore power to the surrounding areas. The outage began at 7:30 a.m. and lasted until 10:15 a.m.
