Police: Clifton Park man faces attempted rape charge

CLIFTON PARK — A Clifton Park man is facing charges that accuse him of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor, police said.

David R. Heffernan, 26, has been charged with second-degree attempted rape, second-degree attempted criminal sex act and attempted dissemination of indecent material to a minor, all felonies.

Heffernan was arrested after a joint investigation by New York State Police the FBI, the Albany County Sheriff's Office and the Colonie Police Department, in conjunction with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Heffernan was processed at state police headquarters in Latham and arraigned in the Colonie Town Court, after which he was taken to the Albany County Jail. His next scheduled appearance in Colonie Town Court is on  Feb. 12.
