SCHENECTADY — A man who pleaded guilty Friday to illegally possessing a loaded handgun is expected to be sentenced to nine years in state prison, Schenectady County District Attorney's officials said.

Daquan Jones, 24, formerly of Hulett Street, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony.

He admitted to having a 9 mm handgun with intent to use it against another person on June 3 on State Street in Schenectady.

Jones was arrested after an officer in the area heard gunshots near State and Catharine streets just after midnight that day. No injuries were reported, and Jones wasn't accused of firing the gun.

He is to be sentenced in April.

Assistant District Attorney Kyle Petit prosecuted. Jones was represented by attorney Mark Juda. Judge Matthew Sypniewski presided.
