GLOVERSVILLE — Fire investigators in Gloversville are asking for the public's help in solving a suspicious fire that destroyed a vacant tannery over the weekend.

The fire was called in at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the former JBF Mill, at Foster Street and West 11th Avenue. No one was hurt, but the building was destroyed.

Fire investigators have deemed the fire to be suspicious and have collected physical evidence from the scene to be analyzed by the state police forensic laboratory.

Police are gathering surveillance video from areas surrounding the scene that they hope will assist investigators.

Police on Monday also appealed to the public for help.

"Gloversville detectives are currently seeking any and all information from the public to include suspicious activities witnessed on those dates, as well as any video from the surrounding areas that may benefit the investigation," the department said in a prepared statement.

Anyone with information was asked to contact police Detective Sgt. Richard Richardson by phone at 518-773-4513 or by email at rrichardson@gpd.fulton.ny.us.
