Seeds for the Section II Class AA girls’ basketball postseason tournament were released Wednesday.

Here’s our breakdown of the classification’s postseason field.

View from the top

Shenendehowa earned the top seed and enters the postseason on a seven-game winning streak.

Best of the rest

This is a deep field. Seeds 2-5 — in order: Colonie, Shaker, Bethlehem and Saratoga Springs — all are contenders.

A youthful Shenendehowa team upset top-seeded Shaker 55-47 in the championship game.

Don’t be surprised if ...

No. 5 Saratoga Springs takes its next step and makes a run to the title game. The Blue Streaks’ backcourt of sophomore Dolly Cairns and junior Kerry Flaherty is as good of a duo as any in the area.

Keep your eyes on ...

The status of Shenendehowa junior Cat Almeida, who has missed games because of an injured foot. The Plainsmen are an area favorite with or without the 6-foot-4 Almeida, but become a major state contender with her back in the lineup.
