TOWN OF MOHAWK — A Duanesburg man paid for $3,400 in hay with a bad check and is now facing charges, state police said.

Matthew N. Vedder, 43, is accused of picking up the hay load in January from a resident in the town of Mohawk and paying with a personal check, troopers said.

The seller reached out to Vedder to make good on the check but Vedder failed to return and pay for the hay, troopers said.

Troopers found Vedder on Wednesday and charged him with one count of third-degree grand larceny, a felony. He was released to return to court later.
