SCHENECTADY — A building under construction at the center of Union College's Integrated Science and Engineering Complex will be named for departing President Stephen Ainlay and his wife, Judith.

Ainlay, who is leaving his position after 12 years on the job, will also be the featured speaker at the college's June 17 commencement ceremony, the college announced Friday.

The building set to carry Ainlay's name sits at the heart of a $100 million project to update and expand the campus' science and engineering facilities. It is expected to be finished in the fall and will be named Stephen Charles Ainlay and Judith Gardner Ainlay Hall.

The arch-shaped structure, designed to let in natural light and foster student and faculty collaboration, connects other campus buildings to the broader science and engineering complex.

David Harris, 48, was named as Union's 19th president in February. He is set to take over this summer.

Harris has served in numerous academic and administrative positions, including his current role as provost and senior vice president at Tufts University in Massachusetts.
