STILLWATER -- A Stillwater woman stole more than $28,000 from a family member while the family member was hospitalized, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office.

BonnieLu M. Brehm, 65, of 108 Brickyard Road, faces one count each of third-degree grand larceny and second-degree forgery, both felonies.

Brehm is accused of forging the victim's signature on checks and using those checks to withdraw the money over about three weeks, while the victim recovered from surgery at an area hospital, officials said.

Brehm was released and will return to court at a later date.
