Route 5S in Rotterdam Junction is closed due to a train derailment at the railroad crossing near the SI Group facility, police said.

Police said there were no hazards due to the train derailment, other than traffic impediment, and they encouraged drivers to seek alternate routes.

Route 5S is closed westbound from the Interstate-890/Thruway Exit 26 interchange, and traffic is being diverted across the Mohawk River to Route 5 in Glenville. Eastbound, Route 5S is closed at Route 103, and traffic is being diverted to Route 5 via Route 103. Commercial vehicle traffic should access Route 5 via the Route 30/Thruway Exit 26 interchange in Amsterdam.

The closure is expected to last the entire day, police said.
