ALBANY — The majority of nurses who work at Albany Medical Center voted to unionize Friday, a statement from hospital officials said.;
The nurses will join the New York State Nurses Association for bargaining purposes. The nurses voted 1,161 to 582 in favor of the union.
"We thank all of our nurses, regardless of how they voted, for their professionalism, for the passion they have for their work, and for the service they provide to our community and to our patients and their families," said James Barba, president and CEO of Albany Medical Center, in a statement.
The results of the vote will become official in around seven days, when the National Labor Relations Board issues its certification of results.
