SCHENECTADY — A city man has been charged with shooting another man in the head on South Avenue on April 11, 2018, police said.  

Melvin L. Allen Jr., 40, was arrested Friday at 5:38 p.m., police said. He is charged with second-degree attempted murder; first-degree assault; second-degree criminal possession of a weapon; and first-degree reckless endangerment, all felonies. 

The victim, 28, was found on the sidewalk in the area of 507 South Ave. late Wednesday, with an apparent gunshot wound to the head, police said. Sgt. Jeffrey McCutcheon described the injury as appearing to be a "graze wound."

Allen is being held awaiting arraignment.
