DA: Ballston Spa man admits 2015 beating, robbery

Man to spend eight years in prison

TROY -- A Ballston Spa man admitted Tuesday that he beat and robbed a man in Schodack three years ago, according to the Rensselaer County district attorney's office.

John D. Walko, 44, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree attempted assault, a felony. He is to be sentenced in July to eight years in state prison.

Walko admitted he entered a shop in Schodack on Jan. 28, 2015, and severely beat the victim before stealing his wallet, prosecutors said. Walko was arrested after a lengthy investigation by Schodack police and state police, prosecutors said.
