NISKAYUNA — Around 100 Niskayuna school district students walked out of class Friday morning and rallied outside Town Hall.
Joining about 15 students from Schenectady high school, the demonstrators were pushing for better gun control legislation.
Those students who are of age registered to vote, while others promised to keep up political pressure until the nation’s gun laws change.
“This is only the beginning. We must stay passionate and stay active,” Niskyuna student Elisabeth Chillrud said.
The Niskayuna students echoed the message Schenectady student have long been voicing: this is not a new problem to urban communities.
“It must be recognized that people of color have been fighting this fight long before Parkland or Sandy Hook,” Niskayuna senior Kira Wisenhunt said.
