SCHENECTADY — Clifton Park resident William Newman, a wealth management advisor at Northwestern Mutual Albany, has been selected as a recipient of the company’s 2018 Community Service Award. In doing so, Newman has secured a $15,000 grant for Girls Inc. of the Greater Capital Region.

Northwestern is awarding grants nationwide to celebrate its financial advisors who are committed to giving back to their local communities.

Newman was presented the grant at the annual Girls Inc. "Girls Night Out" event.

Newman was elected to the Girls Inc. Foundation Trust of Schenectady board in July 2016. During one holiday season, he and his wife supported three families in the area, providing the girls and their families with Christmas gifts. Last June, Newman joined the philanthropy committee to brainstorm innovative fundraising ideas to raise money and awareness. He also helped to secure the first ever corporate sponsorship for the organization from Northwestern Mutual for the annual dinner and auction last month.

“Many of these girls have no stability in their lives, but we can help ensure they have opportunities to become the best possible versions of themselves,” Newman said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the impact these funds will have in so many lives.”

The grant funds will be directed to the Girls Inc. Albany Center Capital Campaign.
