Union College organizes TEDx talks event

SCHENECTADY -- Union college will produce a video recorded conference of speeches in collaboration with the popular TEDx Talks program. 

TED's content garners millions of views on YouTube, and the brand has become a signifier of success in the careers of those chosen to speak at TED events. 

Union is set to record the speeches from noon to 5 p.m. on May 26. 

"We are excited to host Union's first-ever TEDx conference to bring different perspectivves together and allow people to meet and share ideas," said Talha Janjua, a junior, and one of the event's lead organizers. 

A team of 35 students worked with faculty and staff advisers to organize the event over the past few months. The theme will be "Imagination to Innovation." 

Speakers include alumni Lance Trachtman and Jenny Lippmann, along with professors Jermaine Wells, Catherine Walker, Nicole Theodosiou Napier, Ashok Ramasbramanian and students Aaron Wu and Sahil Khullar, a sophomore and junior, respectively. 

Tickets, which are free, are required for admission, as attendance will be limited to 100. But the talks will be uploaded to YouTube and shared on Facebook.
