SEWARD -- Two people died in a one-car crash on Route 145 Monday afternoon, according to state police.

According to CBS6, Christina France and her daughter Elizabeth France were killed in the accident.

Elizabeth France was a sixth-grader in the Canajoharie School District. District officials, in a message posted Tuesday on the district website, said school counselors would be available for grieving students throughout the week.

Troopers arrived at the crash scene at 3:26 p.m. They said a 2004 Honda driven by a 16-year-old from Fort Plain, identified by CBS6 as France's son, left the road and struck some trees head on.

Troopers said the two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. The boy was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Troopers, who did not immediately identify the victims, said an investigation into the accident is continuing.

No charges or tickets had been filed as of Tuesday evening.
