SCHENECTADY - An Albany man punched his ex-girlfriend earlier this month, causing their 14-month-old child to hit his face on a mailbox, authorities said.

The child suffered an apparent small bruise to his lip in the incident, but was otherwise unharmed, according to court documents.

The boy's father, Jashod Chaney, 24, now faces one count of first-degree criminal contempt, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Chaney is accused of taking the child from his mother just before 9 p.m. June 8 on Western Parkway and punching her, causing the child to hit the mailbox, all in violation of an order of protection issued in Schenectady in April, according to court documents. Police arrested Chaney June 14.
