SEWARD - The one-car crash that killed a mother and daughter in Seward Monday remained under investigation Thursday as state police identified the two killed and the car's 16-year-old driver.
Killed were passengers 11-year-old Elizabeth France, of Fort Plain, and Christina N. France, 37, of Cobleskill, state police confirmed.
A state police spokesman Thursday also identified the driver, who was taken to Albany Medical Center for injuries he suffered, as 16-year-old Ethan J. France, of Fort Plain.
Gazette news gathering partner CBS6 identified Christina France as the mother of the two children.
Troopers arrived at the crash scene at 3:26 p.m Monday and found the 2004 Honda had left the road and struck some trees head on. Investigators determined the vehicle had crossed over the center line, exited the roadway and struck the trees.
Elizabeth France, the back seat passenger, and Christina France, the front seat passenger, died at the scene. Family told CBS6 on Tuesday that the boy was expected to undergo surgery and be released from the hospital Wednesday.
The crash continues to be investigated by state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Further information on the investigation was unavailable Thursday.
