CORINTH - The Corinth Fire Department Sunday recovered a Jet Skier's lost prosthetic leg from the waters of the Hudson River, the fire department said.
The Jet Skier from Greenfield Center lost the specialized leg off the back of his personal watercraft Thursday and notified Saratoga County dispatchers, who contacted the fire department, the department said.
Corinth Fire Department divers responded to the Spier Falls boat launch on the Hudson River and conducted a brief search that evening, then looked again for three hours Friday.
On Sunday, the Corinth Dive Team, with help from the Hadley-Luzerne Fire Department, ROG Scuba, Kraken Scuba and Water Horse Adventures took another look. This time, after about 20 minutes of looking, they found the leg in about 15 feet of water, the fire department said.
The owner was contacted and the leg returned. He told officials that the leg included electronics and was made in Austria. It was valued at $127,000, Corinth Fire Chief Andrew Kelley said.
"He was very appreciative," Kelley said of the owner, who needs the prosthetic leg due to injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. "You could see the relief on his face."
He'll now take it in to get it looked at to see if the specialized components can be repaired, Kelley said.
