Allow all sides to share their views

Greg McDermott, Gansevoort

If  you’re a Republican/conservative, there has been an attack on your right to free speech since 2008. Recently, Roseanne Barr tweeted a derogatory comment about a former Obama aide. ABC immediately canceled the reboot of her show.

Jimmy Kimmel says equally derogatory things about President Trump every night on his ABC show. Kimmel is still on the air. Jemele Hill of ESPN tweeted an even more derogatory comment about President Trump last year. She wasn’t even reprimanded by ESPN, which is affiliated with ABC. Samantha Bee on her TBS show recently called the first daughter an offensive word and implied there was an incestuous relationship between her and her dad. Miss Bee is still on the air spewing her hate towards the president and his family.

Why was Roseanne canceled and the other three remain on air, jobs intact? Roseanne is a pro-President Trump conservative and the other three are known Trump-hating liberals, it’s that simple. This is the censorship that Republicans/conservatives have faced for the last decade. If you dare say anything anti-liberal, you face protests, forced resignation, firing or the canceling of your television show.

Our free democracy allows all sides to voice their different views. When one side tries to control what is being said through retribution, that’s communism.
