MALTA -- An East Greenbush man was charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday night after a chain-reaction accident outside the Malta Drive-in.

Saratoga County sheriff's deputies also charged Jonathan R. O'Connor, 34, of Reynolds Road, with reckless driving.

Deputies said O'Connor was driving a pick-up truck north on Route 9 at about 8:45 p.m. when it struck the back end of a minivan waiting to make a right turn into the drive-in. The van was then pushed into another van in front of it.

Police said the vehicles hit were operated by friends taking their children to the movies. A total of five children were passengers in the vans, deputies said, but none were injured.

Deputies said O'Connor and one of the van drivers -- the person was not identified -- suffered injuries and were taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital for treatment.

All three vehicles were significantly damaged in the accident, which police said happened near Callaghan Boulevard.

O'Connor also was ticketed for several vehicle and traffic violations.
