America must be more welcoming

America must be more welcoming

Mary Ellis, Schenectady

Do people realize that the current U.S. administration replicates the Nazi regime? The administration seems based on white supremacy, as the Nazis were concerned with Aryan supremacy. Is there any difference now? Also, the current leader admires dictators: Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-Un.

The Nazis separated families into boxcars and then sent them to various internment/concentration camps. Is there any difference to what’s being done in the United States?

What if the Native Americans had a “wall” and didn’t allow anyone unlike them to settle in the New World? Where did everyone’s ancestors come from? Immigrants to the United States were fleeing oppression and persecution; they were looking for a better future. How is that different from those wanting to flee their home countries in Central America? The followers of Hitler complied with his orders and didn’t follow their conscience, which should have prevented them from becoming murderers of thousands. We have a conscience, which should preclude treating others as deserving less than what we have.

By using the Bible to justify their actions, U.S. officials have twisted God’s word. “God is not partial” to any race (Acts 10:34 & 35). We should embody God’s laws of love and compassion.

How can the country’s leaders and appointees sleep at night? Shame on them.
