SCHENECTADY - A Schenectady woman lied to police when she told them she had been the victim of an armed robbery, authorities allege.

Police Tuesday arrested Sharon A. Alexander, 50, of Richard Street, and charged her with third-degree falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor.

Alexander is accused of calling 911 just after noon Tuesday and reporting that she had been the victim of a strong-arm robbery involving a gun. She then made similar statements to responding officers and detectives, according to police allegations filed in court.

Police then investigated the report and pulled footage from the nearby city street cameras, which showed Alexander's account to be false, according to the police allegations.

Alexander was arraigned and ordered held on $500 bail.
