The Saratoga Performing Arts Center and WMHT and WRTI are coming together to bring the Philadelphia Orchestra's performance off the stage and closer to home.

WMHT and WRTI of Philadelphia will be recording and later broadcasting four Philadephia Orchestra concerts -- on the evenings of Aug. 8, 10, 15 and 17. The concerts will be carried on WMHT radio on select Sundays at 6 p.m. at dates to be announced.

The partnership marks the first time in the Orchestra's 52-year residency at SPAC that the Orchestra's concerts will have a dedicated spot on WMHT.

The concerts will be conducted by Yannick Nezet-Séguin, music director of The Philadelphia Orchestra, and will feature soloists Janai Brugger, the Jussen ‘Piano Brothers,’ Jennifer Koh, Serhiy Salov and Joshua Bell. Nezet-Seguin is slated to begin his role as music director of the Metropolitan Opera in September, though he will continue on with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

“Having Yannick on the podium for two weeks this season is a cultural coup for Saratoga. For those who aren’t able to attend his performances at SPAC, we are delighted that classical music lovers will have the opportunity to tune in to WMHT and WRTI for four virtuosic, distinct performances,” said Elizabeth Sobol, president and CEO of SPAC.

The partnership kicks off at 6 p.m. on Saturday (July 21) on WMHT with a glimpse into the orchestra's recorded history. WMHT will play two WRTI-recorded and produced programs with pianist Garrick Ohlsson under the baton of Herbert Blomstedt. Then on July 28, there will be a program with pianist Denis Kozhin and conductor Stephane Deneve.

“This new partnership with WMHT and WRTI marks a new chapter in our historic collaboration with our friends at The Philadelphia Orchestra and is part of our strategy to engage our artistic partners in new and exciting projects that extend beyond the scope of our performance schedule,” added Sobol. “Having our concerts broadcast to the greater Capital Region, and to audiences in Philadelphia, is part of our mission to make the world-class programming created here available to listeners beyond the SPAC grounds and spark a curiosity in orchestra fans who live outside of New York State.”

The Philadelphia Orchestra will be at Saratoga Performing Arts Center from Aug 1-18. For tickets or more information, visit spac.org.
