Louise Beckerle Rourke and Bridget Simpson completed their 32-mile swim of Lake George early Tuesday morning, according to a post on Rotary District 7190's Facebook page.
Rourke and Simpson set out early Monday morning from Lake George Village and reached their destination, Diane's Rock in Ticonderoga, less than 24 hours later.
The swim was to raise funds for the Global Polio Eradication effort. Rourke contracted polio as a youngster growing up in Glens Falls. Simpson is an experienced open-water swimmer who swam the length of the lake last year by herself. The pair decided to team up this year in a relay.
"What an amazing accomplishment! These ladies set a goal and accomplished it through training and lots of dedication. Thank you!" said the post on the Rotary Facebook page.
