SCHENECTADY -- A pedestrian died after being struck by a tractor-trailer early Thursday morning, police said.

The victim, a 40-year-old Schenectady man who has not been publicly identified by police, was hit just after 2 a.m. in the area of State Street and Washington Avenue, police said.

The name of the truck driver also was not released Thursday.

Paramedics treated the victim at the scene and took him to Ellis Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Police said the truck's driver was not speeding or under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The accident was still under investigation Thursday.
