CLIFTON PARK - A bicyclist died early this morning after he apparently went off the road and struck a railroad bridge underpass, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.

The man, whose name wasn’t immediately released, suffered severe head trauma in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

A passerby spotted the bicyclist just before 1 a.m. on Carlton Road, just south of Van Patton Road and alerted authorities.

Arriving deputies and paramedics found the man. Deputies determined it appeared he had been riding and went off the road, hitting the underpass.

The accident remains under investigation. The Jonesville Fire Department, Clifton Park/Halfmoon EMS and the New York State Police assisted.
