SCHENECTADY -- Dozens of new teachers and administrators will start their careers in Schenectady schools on Monday, as new staff gather for a three-day orientation.
The gathering signals the final sprint to the start of the school year.
The district has hired 73 new teachers and five new administrators for the coming year, district spokeswoman Karen Corona said on Friday.
The district is still in the interview phase of filling another 20 teacher positions in a variety of subjects, including sciences, special education and Spanish, as well as social workers.
The teachers, along with other district staff and people who started after the orientation last year, will meet at Key Hall in Proctors on Monday morning for an opening ceremony. During the orientation, the new teachers will take a bus tour of the city and start visiting the schools they will work in.
Other staff return for orientation and training on Sept. 4, and students return for classes on Sept. 6.
