SARATOGA SPRINGS — Patrick Lynskey has joined Saratoga Arts as the new race director for the annual First Night 5K on New Years' Eve.

Lynskey is the event director for the Firecracker 4 Race in Saratoga Springs and the Freihofer's Run for Women in Albany. He is also the race director for the Troy Turkey Trot and founding partner and COO of GreenLeaf Racing, which provides management and timing services for races throughout the Capital District.

While the First Night 5K at the Skidmore College Athletic Complex had 1,200 signups last year, only 654 runners participated, according to race officials.

Saratoga Arts First Night 5K had been managed by Jeffrey Allen until he retired last year, following the event's 20th anniversary.

"When Jeffrey told us he would be stepping down, we knew that there would be some large shoes to fill," First Night Director Alix Jones said in a prepared statement. "Patrick comes with an impressive resume, and his talent and energy will help carry forward this longstanding tradition into the next decade."

The Saratoga Arts First Night 5K will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 at the Skidmore College gymnasium.

Registration, which opens in September, can be completed at the Saratoga Arts website, at www.saratoga-arts.org
