Letter: Reminder: The U.S. is not a monarchy

Peter Notch, Glenville

Did I miss something when I voted in the last presidential election? I believed that I was voting for the president of the United States. Apparently, Mr. Trump believes he was elected to be a king like Louis XIV of France. Louis asserted, “I am the state.” Mr. Trump proclaims, “If I ever got impeached, the stock market would crash. I think everybody would be very poor.”

I’m happy to report that the United States isn’t a monarchy, isn’t dependent on the presence of a royal leader to keep us out of poverty, and that the other two branches of government would certainly survive an impeachment, and hopefully step up to any challenges.
