Letter: Support efforts to support the troops

Carol Pingelski Hotaling, Clifton Park

It’s great to have the freedom we have because of our current troops fighting for you and me. You get to go on vacation and people go to the Saratoga race track. You get to enjoy a lot of these events because of our troops. Freedom isn’t free for our current military and you have no idea what these families go through for us. We take so much for granted. Shame on us.

The Blue Star Mothers are mothers who now have, or have had, children honorably serving in the military. They support each other and send freedom boxes yearround to our deployed military. We’re still at war, and they’re still being deployed today. Any questions? Email: [email protected]. They have a box for items to be sent to deployed troops at the Halfmoon Town Hall or they will pick up. Checks can be made out to “Blue Star Mothers” for postage. If you know of a family, do something for them. Adopt a family for Christmas or for school supplies. Some items needed are cookies, gum, hard candy (no chocolate), granola bars, energy bars, trail mix, Pringles, fruit snacks, nuts, etc.

Some people don’t know who a Gold Star is. They’re a family who lost a child while serving in the military. I thank you all for taking the time to read this and hope you will think of what I had to say. Remember, freedom is not free.
