SCHENECTADY — An artisan-style bakery will occupy a prominent space in the new Mill Artisan District, with a retail counter and dining room facing onto lower State Street.
Bountiful Bread was introduced Tuesday as the first such tenant of the $30 million project. More will be announced, including wood-fired pizza and barbecue restaurants. Next door, at the corner of State and South Ferry streets, the Frog Alley brewery is nearing completion and expected to start production in October.
The only existing location of Bountiful Bread is in Stuyvesant Plaza in Guilderland; it is one of more than 35 restaurants and fast food eateries operated by White Management of Albany.
This new location will include an additional 4,800 square feet of wholesale bread and pastry production space downstairs from the restaurant. Altogether, the operation is expected to employ the full-time equivalent of 50 people.
Bountiful Bread will likely be part of the educational component of the Mill Artisan District, which is partnering with nearby SUNY Schenectady Community College to place students in training labs and work assignments on site. The brewery and a planned distillery likewise will be offer the college’s craft beverage students educational and workplace experience.
