SCHENECTADY - A morning kitchen fire displaced occupants of four apartments in Schenectady, fire officials said.
No injuries were reported, but about a dozen people lived in the building, Deputy Fire Chief Don Mareno said.
Residents, including children, could be seen huddling outside in their night clothes to keep warm. Three adults and three children were left without a place to stay, according to a Gazette photographer at the scene. The Red Cross was assisting, Mareno said.
The fire was called in just after 3:30 a.m. at 1312 Ninth Ave. Firefighters arrived and confined the fire to an apartment kitchen area, Mareno said. The building also sustained smoke and water damage elsewhere, Mareno said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
