More than 60 people were left homeless early Sunday morning when separate fires damaged multiple homes in Albany.

Members of the Northeastern New York Chapter of the America Red Cross said one fire broke out in the 300 block of Sheridan Avenue. The other fire damaged buildings between 168 and 178 Quail St.

Six houses were destroyed on each street, according to the Red Cross. Other nearby homes were damaged by fire, smoke and water. Power outages were reported in both neighborhoods.

The Red Cross provided assistance to nine families - 27 people - on Sheridan Avenue. On Quail Street, at least 15 families and 37 people received assistance.

Firefighters reported one person was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
