ALBANY — University at Albany men’s lacrosse head coach Scott Marr confirmed Friday that sophomore Tehoka Nanticoke is not participating in the program’s fall ball events.

“He’s not with us,” Marr said. “He’s back at home, and he’s not going to be with us for the fall.”

Marr described Nanticoke’s absence as being for “personal reasons” and that “the expectation is that he’ll be back with us in the spring."

Nanticoke joined UAlbany’s program regarded as the top recruit in his class — and he lived up to that hype during a freshman season in which he helped lead UAlbany to its first appearance in the national semifinals. Nanticoke led UAlbany in goals scored with 50 and ranked second in assists with 32 last season.

Marr said Nanticoke started the semester at UAlbany before returning to Six Nations, and had received an NCAA waiver for his absence.

“He’ll be back in the spring,” Marr said.

UAlbany’s alumni game is Saturday, while the Great Danes will scrimmage The Hill Academy on Monday night and then host a four-team scrimmage including Army, Johns Hopkins and Vermont on Oct. 13.

From UAlbany's 2018 season, the Great Danes graduated their winningest class in program history and lost record-setting faceoff specialist TD Ierlan to transfer. UAlbany went 16-3 last season and spent more weeks ranked No. 1 in the country than any other program.
